Cartoon Based Messaging. The Dry Bones Academy teaches advocacy and activism through cartooning and their use in social media messaging. Students of the Academy will be taught by Yaakov Kirschen, an Israeli American master cartoonist with more than 50 years experience as an award-winning, internationally syndicated professional (and the cartoonist behind the popular and influential Dry Bones cartoon). Kirschen’s lessons have been video-taped and carefully constructed to deliver to the student what they need to know to function as successful cartoonist journalists. The Academy is being constructed as a fully online school with an international student body. It is a main goal of the Academy to empower its students to forcibly take part in the global debate that so often leaves them powerless in the hands of biased media and campus antisemitism. There is no requirement that the student know how to draw or have any previous cartooning experience. Opportunities for distribution of students’ work will be provided by the Academy, as will online gallery exhibitions, feed-back, student forums, etc.
